If your child is 4 years or younger – Reactions to these vaccines are rare, but when they do happen, they come in 2 forms:
- Early local reaction – there may be a red, hard knot at the injection site. Put cool compresses on if the child is uncomfortable.
- Delayed reaction – less than 5% of children will have a fever (up to 102 degrees) and rash (head to toe) 7-10 days after the shots. It goes away. We recommend Tylenol or ibuprofen for comfort.
If your child is older – muscle soreness and low-grade fever can occur. We recommend Tylenol or ibuprofen.
