No longer available for 2023-2024 RSV season

Will resume vaccinations in fall 2024

What is Abrysvo?

Abrysvo is a vaccine that helps protect against lower respiratory tract infections caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It is approved for pregnant women who are between 32 and 36 weeks gestation.

What is RSV?

RSV can cause severe illness in infants (bronchiolitis), and is a leading cause of hospitalization for babies under 12 months. Click here to watch a short video from our Pediatricians to learn more.

What are the benefits of Abrysvo?

After receiving the vaccine during pregnancy, the maternal antibodies produced pass through the placenta and help provide immunity against RSV for infants up to 6 months. In clinical trials, Abrysvo decreased rates of severe RSV illness in infants under 6 months old by around 60%.

What are the side effects of Abrysvo?

Side effects of the vaccine include injection site pain, headache, muscle aches, and nausea. There was a slightly increased risk of preterm births in clinical trials when mothers received Abrysvo, but this was not statistically significant. Abrysvo is recommended by the CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

What is the difference between Beyfortus and Abrysvo?

Abrysvo is different from nirsevimab (Beyfortus), which is a monoclonal antibody treatment for infants under 8 months old. Most babies will only need one or the other, not both. So if a mother receives Abrysvo, the baby likely does not need Beyfortus once they are born. This will be a conversation you can have with your child’s pediatrician. It’s important to note that there is a nationwide shortage on Beyfortus for infants 11 pounds and heavier. If you choose to wait and give your child Beyfortus, you will likely need to do so within the first 6 weeks of life.

Pediatrician Consultations Available

We know that many expecting parents have questions and want to learn more about what happens after their baby is born. For expectant mothers who wish to get Beyfortus you can book a private Pediatrician Consultation. In this session, you will meet one of our pediatricians where they will discuss what to expect in the first year of life, our vaccine policy, and all the services and resources available to you and your baby when you join our practice. This will be your opportunity to get all your questions answered and see where your child will be receiving their medical care. Consultation sessions are $50 and are not eligible for insurance reimbursement. The Abrysvo vaccine will require a refundable deposit but will be submitted to your insurance. See below for more financial information.
