Acne is due to the plugging of oil glands (sebaceous follicles) with oil (sebum) and dead skin cells.

Simple Skincare Routine

Morning: Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle non-comedogenic cleanser like Cetaphil or Cerave. After patting the skin dry with a towel, apply a non-comedogenic moisturizer with SPF 15-50. If you want, you can apply a non-comedogenic makeup (i.e. Dermablend) on top.
Night: Remove any makeup with a non-comedogenic wipe. Wash your face with the same cleanser. After drying the skin, apply a non-comedogenic night cream or moisturizer.

DON’T Go Without Sunscreen
Use at least SPF 15 on your face every day. Even a dreary day can damage your skin causing age spots and wrinkles. Wear SPF 30 in the sun- you’ll still get a lovely tan.

DON’T Touch Your Face
Popping pimples and picking skin causes permanent scarring and prevents acne from healing. Touching your face spreads oil and bacteria. Avoid over-exfoliating.

DON’T Surf the Internet
Don’t get sucked in to using unnecessary/harmful toners, pore strips, and facemasks, or trying Kim Kardashian’s personal routine. Stick to your doctor’s recommendations.

Remember

Acne always looks worse before it gets better. Stick with this new routine for at least 6 weeks before giving up! If you’re diligent for 6 weeks and if there’s still no improvement, call our office to book an appointment. We may refer you to a dermatologist after you have tried the Simple Skincare Routine.
