Pediatric Endocrinology Services

We are excited to announce the addition of Pediatric Endocrinology to our range of specialty services as of October 7, 2025. By expanding into this important area of care, we are continuing our commitment to elevating the patient’s experience and ensuring families have access to comprehensive, coordinated support within their medical home. Our goal is to provide children and adolescents with expert, compassionate care while strengthening the continuity and quality of their overall health journey.

Our Approach

We believe in partnering with families to create personalized treatment plans that address both medical needs and emotional well-being. We focus not only on managing conditions but also on empowering children and families with knowledge and support.

Dr. Ellen Leschek

Ellen Leschek is a pediatric endocrinologist. After completing her pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), she continued on at the NIH as a clinical researcher. She conducted clinical studies in the area of growth and puberty for 10 years, then moved into a position overseeing clinical trials in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and atypical diabetes. During her tenure at the NIH, she served as a pediatric endocrinology clinic attending physician, where she mentored fellows, residents, and students. She retired from the NIH after 33 years of service. When she is not working, Dr. Leschek enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters (and their spouses), and two grandsons.

Conditions We Treat:

At Potomac Pediatrics, we specialize in caring for children and adolescents with hormone-related conditions. Our focus is on providing compassionate, evidence-based care to help every child grow, develop, and thrive.

Precocious Puberty

Early puberty can be confusing and stressful for both children and families. We provide thorough evaluations to determine the cause and offer treatment options to support healthy development and emotional well-being.

Puberty Concerns

Whether your child is experiencing delayed puberty, rapid changes, or irregular development, we help identify underlying causes and create an individualized plan of care.

Growth Concerns

Concerns about height, growth rate, or growth delays are common. We use advanced diagnostics to assess growth patterns and offer treatment options when needed, helping children reach their full potential.

Weight Management & GLP-1 Medication Management

Weight-related health concerns are complex and require a thoughtful, supportive approach. Our team provides:

  • Comprehensive medical evaluations
  • Lifestyle and nutrition counseling
  • Medication management, including GLP-1 therapy when appropriate.
  • Referral for bariatric surgery consideration when indicated.

Our goal is to help children achieve healthy, sustainable changes while promoting self-esteem and confidence.

Type 2 Diabetes

Managing Type 2 diabetes in children and teens requires both medical expertise and family support. We provide:

  • Diagnostic evaluations
  • Medication management
  • Blood sugar monitoring education
  • Long-term care planning for better health outcomes
