Most providers at Potomac Pediatrics will continue to see their patients through college. During college and/or early adulthood, many young adults are transient – spending some time on campus and some time at home. Continuity of care is important so we will continue to provide care during this period unless any issues arise that would be better served by an adult provider. Plan ahead by scheduling appointments in advance during your breaks. Do not wait until you’re on break to call for a check-up, medication check, or other routine follow-up appointment as these are peak times and you may not be able to get an appointment last minute.
Now that you’re 18, you’re legally considered an adult and that means your healthcare is your responsibility. Here’s what that means at Potomac Pediatrics:
Once you turn 18, your parent(s) or guardian(s) no longer have automatic access to your medical records. You decide who can be involved in your care. You’ll need to complete an Age of Consent Form to let us know your preferences. This will be given to you when you check in for your first appointment as an adult.
You have 3 options:
Full Access
Restricted Access
No Access
Important: If you remain on your parent’s insurance plan, they will still have access to your Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) from the insurance company which will have limited private health information such as billing codes that indicate services, labs, and tests performed in the office. This is outside the control of Potomac Pediatrics.
You can now update the contact information in your chart to receive appointment reminders directly. Let us know if you’d like texts or calls to go to your phone instead of your parents’ number.
You may also update the email address we have on file. Please be aware that email notifications include appointment reminders, practice wide updates, and billing statements. If your parent or guardian is still responsible for your account, it may be best to keep their email on file to ensure they receive important financial information. If you do choose to change the email, it will be your responsibility to share any relevant communications with them.
All families are required to keep a credit card on file with Potomac Pediatrics. Up until this point, this is likely your parent or guardians credit card on file. This card is used for copays, coinsurance or deductible deposits, statement balances, and the Annual Non-Covered Services Fees.
If you would like to update the credit card on file, please contact us at (301) 279-6750 and select the option for billing.
For parents & guardians, if you wish to remove your credit card on file, please email billing@potomacpediatrics.com. Please also note, your child MUST then put their own credit card on file to remain in compliance with our financial policies at Potomac Pediatrics and POP NOW. Accounts that do not remain in compliance will be reviewed for closure.
