COVID-19 vaccines 2025-2026

COVID Vaccines for patients 12+ are now available! Click the button above to schedule your appointment.

Here is what we DO know:

The mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. Multiple studies have supported this fact as have recommendations from most major medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

The CDC and FDA have released more restrictive recommendations for who should get the COVID-19 vaccine, recommending the vaccine for only:

  • Adults older than 65 years old
  • Younger adults and children with underlying high-risk medical conditions

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has published independent COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for the pediatric population. This is something that they have done for years and is not unique to the current discourse surrounding vaccines. Those recommendations are:

  • All children 6 months to 2 years SHOULD receive a primary COVID-19 vaccine series
  • All children older than 2 years that have not previously been vaccinated SHOULD receive a COVID-19 vaccine this year
  • All children older than 2 years with any high-risk condition SHOULD receive a COVID-19 vaccine this year
  • All children older than 2 years without any high-risk conditions MAY receive a COVID-19 vaccine based on parent/patient preference and/or discussion with their pediatrician

The providers at Potomac Pediatrics have discussed these recommendations and unanimously agree with the recommendations of the AAP. We believe in the safety and efficacy of all vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine.

Here is what we DON'T know:

We do not currently have all COVID-19 vaccine doses in the office. We hope doses will be available by late-September but have not received shipment timelines from Pfizer or Moderna for pediatric doses for children 6 months-11 years. We will provide updates as they are available.

We do not know if your insurance will pay for your child’s COVID-19 vaccine this year.

  • When vaccines are recommended by the CDC, insurance companies are required, by law, to pay for these.
  • We have not received any information from our insurance partners about their plans for COVID-19 vaccine coverage for the upcoming year in the context of the CDC’s more restrictive recommendations.

Here is our plan:

We will offer COVID-19 to children 6mo and older.

  • For children 6 months to 5 years – We will offer the MODERNA COVID-19 vaccine at office visits or vaccine-only appointments
  • For children 5 years and older- We will offer the PFIZER COVID-19 vaccines at office visits or vaccine-only appointments
  • We will NOT be offering COVID vaccines to parents, guardians, or caretakers. Please consult with your PCP or local pharmacy for your eligibility to receive the vaccine.

If you have questions about if the COVID-19 vaccine is right for your child, we encourage you to schedule a televisit with your pediatrician to talk through your questions.

At check-in you will be asked to sign a waiver accepting financial responsibility for the cost of the vaccine. We will submit all vaccine claims to your insurance company. However, if the claim is denied, the vaccine will be billed to you directly and charged to your credit card on file.

We will continue to examine the available data, recommendations, and updates as it relates to COVID-19, COVID-19 vaccines, and policies and communicate any changes with you.
