Labs and Procedures

Procedures

We are able to do many medical procedures here in the office. Some of these include:

  • Vision and hearing screens
  • Nebulizer treatments for asthma
  • Tympanometry – assessing for fluid behind the eardrum
  • Ear wax removal
  • Foreign body removal from ears, nose, etc.
  • Burn care
  • Incision and drainage of wounds
  • Cauterizing oozing belly buttons
  • Reduction of dislocated elbows
  • Ear piercing

Lab Testing

"In-house" labs performed at Potomac Pediatrics:

  • Blood tests for anemia, cholesterol, lead levels
  • Strep Throat testing with rapid testing and cultures
  • Urine tests for infection, diabetes or other kidney problems
  • Nasal swabs for Flu, RSV, and COVID-19
  • Stool exam for blood
  • Urine pregnancy tests

Phlebotomy and "send out" testing

  • All of our nurses are trained in pediatric phlebotomy
  • Blood draws can be performed at the time of your child's visit or in a separately schedule 'lab visit' by one of our experienced pediatric nurses
  • Labs are send to LabCorp or Quest based on your insurance's preferences

Lab Waiver Information

  • Your Insurance may not cover all labs done during your child’s appointment, you be be required to pay at the time of service
  • A staff member will discuss this with you if it applies to your and/or your insurance policy
