Congratulations! Welcoming a baby into your family is an exciting time. We would like to assist you in your process of choosing the best pediatric practice for your family. We offer informational sessions on select evenings each month where we invite you to visit our office and meet with one of our physicians who will discuss the practice and answer any questions that you may have.

Here’s what you need to know when the big day comes!

If your child is born at…

SHADY GROVE ADVENTIST HOSPITAL, Potomac Pediatrics will automatically be notified about the birth of your child by the hospital staff when you indicate at delivery that you have chosen us as your pediatricians. We will come to the hospital within 24 hours of the birth of your child to examine your new baby and answer any questions you may have. We visit you and your new baby twice while you are in the hospital. The hospital staff will provide your baby with a vitamin K shot, routine hearing screen, blood test for state newborn screening, and offer Hepatitis B vaccination. We encourage all patients to receive the first Hepatitis B vaccine at the hospital. There is an excellent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Shady Grove in the event that your newborn needs more intensive care or closer monitoring than the general Well Baby Nursery.

Any OTHER HOSPITAL in the community, then your baby will be seen by the hospital staff physicians for these first examinations. The hospital staff will provide your baby with a vitamin K shot, routine hearing screen, blood test for state newborn screening and offer Hepatitis B vaccination. We encourage all patients to receive the first Hepatitis B vaccine at the hospital.

ALL PATIENTS: Please call to schedule your first appointment with us the day you are being discharged from the hospital. The first visit in our office is 1-2 days after you leave the hospital.
